Clarkson University is moving toward establishing a Department of Physician Studies. This effort is one aspect of the University’s desire to expand Health Sciences programs. Health Sciences programs are being developed to meet national health care needs, and specifically the needs of Northern New York, a medically underserved region.

The Founding Chairperson is expected to:
 Develop and implement initial program plans and curriculum.
 Prepare accreditation documents and guide the program through pre-program accreditation, and subsequent full accreditation activities;
 Hire faculty and staff with appropriate credentials and experience;
 Provide leadership for the Department, and participate fully in Department activities;
 Participate in Division, School, and University governance;
 Guide, and participate in, student recruitment; and
will report to the Associate Dean for Health Sciences.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must:
 Have graduated from an accredited program for Physician Assistant studies.
 Be eligible for New York State licensure.
 Have an academic degree at the Master’s level or above.
A doctoral degree, or progress toward a doctoral degree, is preferred, as is an expectation of licensure in New York State as a Physician Assistant.

Rank and salary will be negotiated based on experience and credentials.

Funding for faculty lines necessary for planning and development will be available early in the planning phase. All faculty lines are expected to be funded and filled not less than one semester before the first class of students matriculates.

Clarkson University is a small (3,100) private university located in Potsdam, NY. Potsdam is a rural community, near the foothills of the Adirondack mountains, with easy access to Lake Placid, Ottawa, Montreal, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. Clarkson and one other university are in Potsdam, and two other universities are within 15 miles of Potsdam. These four universities cooperate as Associated Colleges. Numerous outdoor activities are available in the region.
