Clarkson University's Gregory Slack Honored by Research Council

Clarkson University Director of Research and Technology Transfer Gregory C. Slack has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA).

Gregory C. SlackNCURA’s core purpose is to serve its members by advancing the field and profession of research administration. Slack's award is from Region II or the Mid-Atlantic region, representing Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.

“My work at Clarkson involves efforts to attract and manage external grant and contract funding in support of sponsored research activities," says Slack. "The Division of Research is responsibility for the administrative aspects of research funding and being that Clarkson is a research-intensive university, it made sense to become involved with NCURA to be sure we're up to date with the best practices in research administration.”

Slack came to Clarkson in 2005 after working in the pharmaceutical industry. Soon after, he was serving on several NCURA committees.

Many of his NCURA committee efforts deal with committee service, conference coordination, and presentations at national and regional meetings on contracting and intellectual property management. He has also hosted many workshops and discussion groups on this subject as well.

NCURA's business meeting and award presentation took place in May in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., with a full house of members from around the region.

Slack received his associate's degree in science from SUNY Morrisville, his bachelor of arts in chemistry from SUNY Potsdam and his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Clarkson University educates the leaders of the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as an owner, CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. With its main campus located in Potsdam, New York, and additional graduate program and research facilities in the Capital Region and Beacon, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university with signature areas of academic excellence and research directed toward the world's pressing issues. Through more than 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, education, sciences and the health professions, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo and connect discovery and innovation with enterprise.
