Clarkson University's Director of Libraries Voted New York Library Association President-Elect

Clarkson Director of Libraries & Associate Professor Michelle L. Young has been elected by members of the New York Library Association (NYLA) to lead the organization.

Michelle YoungShe will serve as NYLA president-elect for 2017-2018 and as president for 2018-2019.  

Young has worked in academic libraries for more than 16 years, excelling in all areas of the profession including, but not limited to, early promotion, tenure and advancement into library administration. Her credentials reveal evidence of strong and effective leadership and management, financial management and budgeting expertise, networking and collaboration skills that span departments, institutions and locals, a high level of organizational abilities, an assortment of technology skills, and excellent public service skills.

She is experienced in staff development, strategic planning, construction and renovation projects, as well as policy and planning work. Young has extensive involvement working with a variety of committees, teams and boards that span the academic spectrum. Additionally, she has successfully been involved in organizational governance, publishing, presenting and fundraising activities.
 
"We are excited to be working with Michelle and welcome her insights from the academic library community," said NYLA Director Jeremy Johannesen. "Michelle has already proven to be a valuable asset to the library community, and I look forward to her leadership."
 
The New York Library Association (NYLA) is the voice of the library community in New York. NYLA is the oldest state library association in the country and represents school, college, special and public libraries, library staff, trustees, and students from around the state. NYLA is the only statewide organization dedicated to advocating on behalf of all libraries and library staff in Albany and serves as the spokesperson on library matters to the media and public policymakers.
