Third Mixer to Help Entrepreneurs Advance Their Businesses, 9/13 in Canton

The St. Lawrence Country Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and the St. Lawrence County Small Business Working Group are once again teaming up to host a business mixer event in Canton on September 13th. This event, the third in a series that started in March, will provide an opportunity for local entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners to connect with colleagues and learn from their experiences.

The mixer will be held at the Best Western University Inn in Canton. Registration and networking begins at 4pm, followed by stories from four St. Lawrence County business owners from 5-6, and a networking and cocktail hour from 6-7.

Attendees will be able to network with other regional business owners and employees, learn what they are doing to increase their profitability and discover new connections that could help keep dollars in St. Lawrence County.

In addition to the entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners in attendance, various resource partners from around the county will also be present to explain the programs and opportunities that they offer. Most of these partners offer free services to businesses, including low-interest loans, energy efficiency programs, assistance with business plans, prototyping support and grants for upgrading manufacturing equipment.

Each of the previous mixers, held in March and June, saw over 100 attendees representing 40+ local business and 30+ resource partners! Comments from those that attended have highlighted the value of networking connections they made, the important lessons learned from fellow business owners, and the job leads that were generated.

This event will feature four businesses who will discuss their sales and marketing strategy and how their approach has proven successful for their business. Those presenting include Jim Thew of Waddington True Value and Thew Associates, Andy Davis from Jack of Trade Apps, Nance Arquiett of 2 Mama Birds and Sparrow Consulting, and Sandy Maine of Adirondack Fragrance and Flavor Farm.

Staff from the New York Power Authority, the St. Lawrence County IDA, Clarkson's Shipley Center for Innovation, St. Lawrence University, and the Small Business Development Center at SUNY Canton will be on hand to help connect business owners / leaders with the resource partners who are best equipped to assist them.

In addition, representatives from a number of local, county, regional and statewide development organizations will be available to answer questions about the services they provide in support of business.

The St. Lawrence County Small Business Working Group, which is co-sponsoring this event with the St. Lawrence County IDA, includes Atlantic Testing Laboratories, Clarkson University, Point Positive, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Canton, SUNY Potsdam, the Small Business Development Center, NYPA and the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.
